Bob Loveless Custom Knife 1970’s 3 Pin Micarta Big Bear Fighter

From the 1960's through the 1990's Ken Warner wrote articles for popular gun and knife magazines. In 1968, Ken failed to recognize Bob Loveless in the article featuring the best knife makers of the time. Bob was so upset that he sent a box of his knives to Ken Warner to show his work to him.

Ken Warner was so impressed by Bob Loveless' knives that he introduced Bob to Harry Archer (Harry was the head of the U.S. operations of the Vietnam War). In 1969 Harry Archer met Bob Loveless and landed Bob a government contract through the Pentagon. This contract propelled Bob Loveless into a full time knife maker.

Harry Archer would give Bob's Big Bear Fighters to the generals in Vietnam. The general's would proudly wear their Big Bear Subhilt Fighters on their sides along with their 45 caliber 1911 pistols finished off with a Stainless Steel Rolex Submariner watch on their wrists.

This is a 1970's, 3 Pin Big Bear Subhilt Fighter with Solder Joint, and Nickel Silver fittings. What makes this knife even more unique is that Bob made it with Canvas Micarta between the guard and subhilt and used Linen Micarta from the subhilt back to the butt end of the knife.

In 1978, for about a decade, Bob stopped making the Big Bears Fighters. He wouldn't even accept an order for one. Bob could make 10 drop point hunters for every Big Bear he made. This made Big Bear Fighters extremely rare. Bob Loveless made less than 60 Big Bear Fighters prior to 1995. Here is a rare opportunity to own an original Bob Loveless Big Bear Subhilt Fighter!
