David Goldberg Custom Knife "Wild Horses" Tanto

We are offering a new sole author piece by David. He has been making Samurai type weaponry for the past 20 years. David Goldberg was trained in Japan under the Kanefusa Lineage. He is a world renown Japanese style sword maker know for his sole author work. Not only does David makes his won steel, forges the blade, but polishes, makes the fittings, handle and case himself.

This Tanto is named "Wild Horses". The blade is a strong Hira Zukuri style, nagasa (measurement of the blade) measuring 10 5/8". It has a wide Mihaba of and a thick kasane of a 1/4", formidable shape for armor piercing. The blade grain is "Muji hada" a fine almost unnoticeable jihada. The yakiba is a strong high into the blade "O Notare" hamon with Distinct "Nioi" (shadowy line in the hamon) activity in the top of the hamon.

The shape of the Nakago (tang) is Funa gata style found in many traditional wide bladed tantos. The Kisaaki is a bold Fukura style. The tsuka is made in a Higo style with Katatemaki (battle style wrap) done in sienna doeskin over natural Same (stingray skin). The Fuchi & Kashira: Pommel cap (kashira) Copper and silver mix (shibuichi) David mixes his own non ferrous metal as well.

Handle collar (fuchi) Shibuichi. The Handle under wrap ornaments (menuki) are Sentoku (brass with silver) Horses. The Saya, (case) is Ho wood, (Japanese Magnolia) with hand carved water buffalo horn fittings.

This tanto is razor sharp and masterfully made. It will be a welcome addition to any collection.
