Alfred Pendray
Al Pendray (1937–2017) was a self-taught farrier turned Master Bladesmith in Florida, renowned for resurrecting the lost art of wootz steel forging. Over decades, he meticulously recreated Persian crucible techniques, mastering carbide alignment and grain structure. His Wootz Damascus blades—ranging from compact integral knives to full-sized bowies—feature historical steel with natural crystalline patterns, gold inlays, and premium materials like stag or mammoth. Inducted into the ABS Hall of Fame and awarded in 1991, Pendray’s creations are both technical marvels and collector treasures.
