Bill Bagwell
Bill Bagwell (1939–2021) was a renowned American bladesmith from Louisiana, making his first knife at age 10 and working full-time from 1969. A founding member of the American Bladesmith Society, he became one of the first modern smiths to successfully forge pattern-welded and cable Damascus steel. He’s best known for iconic fighting Bowies like the “Hell’s Belle,” designs respected enough to influence Special Forces training. Known for rugged, balanced blades and expert sheath-making, Bagwell was also a prolific writer, authoring Bowies, Big Knives, and the Best of Battle Blades—leaving a legacy celebrated by collectors and tactical enthusiasts alike.
